Thisleggy lass sure is a yaaron ka yaar. Adamant that she will do item numbersmainly “for my close associates and friends, and that too when I amconvinced,” Malaika is simply not ready to add fuel to the controversysurrounding her latest item song Hoth rasile tere... fromWelcome.
The track created ripples, and notjust in the dance circles.Rumours suggested, firstly that it was not publicisedas a part of movie’s promos. Then again, the song was not presented in thefilm in the way it was promised to her.
But Malaika stresses that“no such thing happened. Yes, there were some internal discussions, andnow they (the producers) are promoting it.” Further clarifying her stand,she says, “I don’t have any issues with them.”
Adding insult to injury arethe whispers that all this was done at the behest of hottie Mallika Sherawat.But Malaika dismisses everything, saying: “I have no idea. I am notinterested in all thispolitics.”

Changing tack,we ask what does she feel about being labelled a sex bomb. “I take it as acompliment,” is her prompt reply, to which she adds, “There isnothing derogatory in it. I would prefer to be called spicy and sexy, ratherthan plain and bland.”
TheBollywood’s queen of item numbers, despite being a well-known face in thefilm industry, has not been seen in a role that required acting. Are roles notbeing offered, we wonder? “Roles are being offered but I have been alwayschoosy, “ is all she is willing to offer in reply.

When will she be seen in afull-fledged role, we persevere? “In EMI..., where I am playing the loveinterest of Arjun Rampal. The film is being directed by Saurabh Kabra, and willbe released around April this year.” Information has it that she mightappear in a lead role in Shaadi Ke After Effects, directed by South Indiandirector Indrajith, along with husband Arbaaz? “No, I am just doing aguest appearance in it,” she correctsus.
Malaika is excited abouther upcoming TV show Dhoom Macha De, a music-based reality show, where she isboth the host and the judge. What sets this show apart, according to her isthat, “This show is about professional singers and their egoclashes.” But given a choice, Malaika would opt for a “talk show ora dance show.”
Interestingly, the lady is ananimal-lover who has campaigned actively to bring attention to the plight ofMacaws in her capacity as a PETA activist. “These exotic birds are kept ina bad state, often with their wings clipped off. They are often shown incircuses. I did a campaign to better their situation and help bring them out ofthe sad state they are in,” she smiles.
What about her future plans?“I would like to start a clothing range soon,” comes the determinedreply. And her other projects as an actress,” The talks are on forSuniel’s tentatively titled Loot, but I have not finalised yet,” isall she is willing to divulge.
